Sealing Tracks Avoids Microplastic

Countless sources cause microplastics*, the abrasion of tyres and road markings or the washing of functional textiles. The effects on the environment are still hardly foreseeable. It is understandable that against this background all plastic products are put to the test, including tracks. They are certainly not among the main causes; however, this is no reason to forego countermeasures. Especially if a track is “misused”, for example by concerts or events, the surface can suffer damage. Granulate will then escape at holes or cracks. However, the track can be protected against this.

CONICA Track Trophy – piece of track as a souvenir for life

This year it was finally time for Weltklasse Zürich, the final of the Wanda Diamond League, to be held again. But before the athletics highlight could take place, the legendary “Piste Magique” at the Letzigrund Stadium was replaced by a completely new CONICA running track.

A Training Venue With a Rich Tradition

Milan’s Arena Civica Gianni Brera is mainly used as a sports venue for track and field. In the summer of 2020, the athletic track received a special CONICA surface that, thanks to its ability to achieve a particularly high level of force reduction, is optimised for training purposes.

Weltklasse Zürich 2021 in the stadium and in the city centre: Athletes praise atmosphere and quality

The last major global athletics event of the 2021 season, the Weltklasse Zürich Meeting, was also the final of the Diamond League. It was a special event, as races were not only held in the Letzigrund Stadium, but seven of the 32 final races were held in the city centre at Sechsläutenplatz, situated next to the opera and the lake. 2,500 spectators were able to watch close up as the most important global athletics event after the Tokyo Olympics took place, energising not only the athletes but also providing the stage for sport to reach and inspire the general public.

Aspects for a certification. Facilities manual

Knowing all the detailed aspects involved in the certifications granted by World Athletics (WA) is no easy task, since this includes many parameters that are also regularly updated and modified. The concepts that you need to check and take into account are nevertheless available to the general public and can be downloaded directly from the World Athletics (WA) website. The following link provides all the “technical information”, which together with the Book of Rules forms the working basis to be considered when constructing an athletic facility and developing official competitions:

Types of certifications

As we mentioned in the previous article, there are various different certifications. We are going to focus on the certificates that you will have heard the most about in the market. Although they used to be referred to as IAAF certificates and many people still call them by that name today, the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) changed its name to World Athletics (WA) in November 2019. In doing so they also changed the names of their certifications. That is why you will often see both expressions referring to the same organisation.

Olympic athletics track in central Mexico

Santiago de Querétaro (Querétaro for short) lies about 240 km north-west of Mexico City. The almost 500-year-old city is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Not only the colonial architecture, but also a huge sports and cultural centre has been a hallmark of the city centre since 2021. The stadium features a bright blue athletics track with a CONIPUR SW surface.

Green is a basic attitude with Conica.

The Swiss company Conica is one of the world’s top suppliers of flooring solutions – i.e. functional floors for sports facilities and gymnasiums, industrial buildings, parking garages, as well as for residential construction, educational and healthcare facilities. However, the production of the floors is preceded by energy-intensive chemical processes. A glance at the details shows how Conica has nevertheless been able to achieve considerable success with environmental measures. In particular, the close cooperation with the Energy Agency Swiss Private Sector (EnAW) is paying off in terms of reducing energy consumption and costs.
