Of course, CONICA also wanted to secure a part of this historic track, on which countless athletic achievements had already been accomplished. Weltklasse Zürich was just around the corner and the track piece was to be transformed into something special, something memorable. The idea came up, to give the track pieces to those to whom they would mean the most: The winners of the past Weltklasse Zürich events. After all, which athlete would not want to be reminded of great sporting experiences and successes?
This is the origin of the story of the #tracktrophy.
In order to create this unique trophy, not only high-quality materials but also precise workmanship was crucial. Each trophy was made by hand and with great care and attention to detail.
Step 1: Transport and handover
First, the precious goods were transported from Zurich to Schaffhausen to CONICA.
Step 2: Cutting and smoothing
After that, the pieces were cut into the right shape and smoothed with great care.
Step 3: Gluing and attaching
Then the track pieces were precisely glued and attached to the custom-made certificates.
Step 4: Framing and packaging
The certificates were then carefully framed in special 4-D frames and made ready for transport.
The result
An individual and personal trophy with the athlete’s name, the performance achieved and the discipline completed:
«To honour your outstanding performance during the Diamond League finals – Weltklasse Zürich, you will receive as a gift an original piece of the legendary CONICA track «Piste Magique» from the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich, Switzerland.»
To raise the curiosity of the trophy winners and athletics fans, the hashtag #tracktrophy was started on Instagram and individual photos and extracts of the #tracktrophy story were spread. Finally, the complete video was published:
A total of 50 athletes who had won at the Weltklasse Zürich meetings from 2017 to 2019 received an original piece of the CONICA running track from the Letzigrund Stadium. With a personal letter and well packaged, the trophy was sent to the homes of the athletes.
